AI Forum – Path to AI with a Quantum Computer Brain

Synopsis

The term artificial intelligence (“AI”) was first coined in the 1950’s, and has been an integral part of our daily lives, as it has revolutionised how we live, work and get around. Meanwhile, there has been much interest in quantum computing (“QC”) as it allows us to solve more complex problems that can never be solved by classical computing. Given that AI and QC are new and exciting frontiers, this session will discuss how QC can boost AI, and what are the challenges in using QC for AI purposes

14:35 – 14:55 AI: A Catalyst for Digital Economy

Synopsis

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the key catalysts for Internet economy in the coming digital era. Leveraging on massive database and sophisticated algorithms, the flexibility and precision of AI transform traditional industries and give rise to emerging ones. Mr. Hailong Shang, with his considerable experience and knowledge in ICT industry, will demonstrate several real-world applications of AI technology based on SenseTime’s proprietary computer vision and deep learning technology. The demonstration of the cutting-edge AI innovations aims to showcase the enormous capability and endless applicable possibilities of AI in business scenarios.

14:55 – 15:15 AI Drives Retail as a Conversational Service

Synopsis

Attributes to breakthroughs in deep learning in recent years, we have seen rapid progress in core areas of artificial intelligence (AI), such as speech, natural language, vision, dialogue, and multimodal intelligence. While we are excited about the progress, we are more eager than ever about how these technical advances will change our lives. Taking the retail industry as an example, the session will introduce how we can use AI technology to transform retail from simple transactions to conversational services at JD.com. The whole process of retail often includes many stages that involving interaction with customers, such as pre-sale and customer service. In these stages, with advanced conversational AI technology, we will be able to build a multimodal intelligent interactive dialogue system capable of large-scale complex scenes. It can not only answer customer's questions and solve customer's problems quickly, but also provide sympathetic and temperate comfort to customer's emotional appeals, thus providing timely and thoughtful service to customers. On the other hand, the cost reduction and efficiency improvement brought about by intelligent conversational service will also unlock more opportunities that previously could not be afforded, and further upgrade customers’ experience.

15:50 – 16:10 Quantum Information: From Foundations to New Technologies

Synopsis

Quantum communication networks have the potential to revolutionize our information technology, providing enhanced security and unprecedented computational power. Reliable quantum communication links could be used to distribute large computations to multiple quantum processors and to achieve unprecedented precision in GPS networks and other sensor networks. More broadly, the ability to connect quantum devices into a network could enable a variety of new applications, such as secure quantum cloud computing. However, noise and decoherence still stand in the way, and the limited transmission rates make quantum communication a scarce resource. In this presentation I will outline some new proposals for the efficient transmission of data collected by quantum sensors, and some new strategies for mitigating (and sometimes completely removing) noise in quantum communication.
